It’s been a while since I pulled out my fashion sketchbook and drew out some clothes, but after doing a lot of exploring in Chicago this summer the city buildings have inspired me.
THE WINDOW TEXTURE COCKTAIL
For the first outfit I was inspired by the closeup details of a regular old building. I really wanted to play with the lines and angles that are formed from the windows, and ended up with this playful little cocktail dress. It’s very geometric and has a simple elegance to it.
THE SEARS TOWER JUMPSUIT
For this piece I wanted to show the height and simplistic beauty of the tallest building in the city of Chicago. The different lines and textures in the fabric are supposed to mimic the reflections of the windows of the building while the neckline shows the varying heights of different parts of the building elongating the overall look.
THE MARINA CITY TOWER GOWN
Marina City Towers are two of my favorite buildings in the city and as such I wanted to a dramatic gown inspired from them. So for my final sketch I played off of layering and texture in the skirt and a little bit at the top to mimic the same organic shapes that the iconic “corn-cob” buildings possess.
